I love horror movies with cool sounding but somewhat ludicrous names. Add in an weird, also ludicrous plot and you'll have me sitting at the dark theater for sure.
Unfortunately the last decade hasn't been good in terms of good name. I mean, there is nothing wrong with The Ring, The Grudge, Final Destination, Scream and whatever else. But where is the panache? Where is the outrageous? Where is the ridiculous? Where are the I Spit on Your Graves?
I mean, even the remakes. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes are good, if not in the top. But Dawn of the Dead, Halloween, and When a Stranger Calls are all on the dull side.
But with the nostalgia and urge to remake every recognizable horror movie under the sun I was sure we would eventually get more of the great titles of yore, and today I received two good news in this front.
The first is that Larry Cohen' classic It's Alive! will be remade. At first this might not seem like such a great title, but let it roll in your head a little. Notice how it calls for an exclamation point. Notice the mix of ambiguity, horror and schlock. And then realize that the "it" in the title refers to a mutant killer baby.
This remake is old news, but I only found about it today. They even have a cast a heroin: Bijou Phillips. Who I imagine will give birth to the babies.
The second news refers to a brand new and original film, called I Sell the Dead. The movie is about two London corpse traders (who sell the dead, you see). It will probably star Dominic Monaghan, Larry Fessenden and Ron Perlman. Perlman played the title character in Hellboy. I have no idea who the other two are, but it doesn't matter. With this title and plot summary you already know it will be good.
