Here are the elements:
Blindness, the novel by Nobel prize winner José Saramago that tells the story of a sudden and inexplicable epidemic of blindness .
Fernando Meirelles, the director of City of God and The Constant Gardner.
Daniel Craig (James Bond!) and Julianne Moore.
If you put all these things together, what do you get? Well, me drooling with anticipation, mostly. But also the film adaptation of Blindness staring Daniel Craig and Julianne Moore, directed by Fernando Meirelles.
Now, Blindness is a great, great novel, but I think it will be a tough one to adapt. So this could turn out to be a waste of film. But doesn't the idea make you excited?
Fernando Meirelles is one of the most promising new directors, and he has already made one classic film. He also did a very good job with The Constant Gardner, in which he had good but not amazing source material. Blindness is a much more ambitious project and will definitely be a test of his abilities. But if he delivers it, this could be one truly remarkable film.
And Daniel Craig and Julianne Moore? They have more than proved that they are great actors, and I'm sure Meirelles will get a good performance out of them.
The project has just been announced, so it will take a while before we get to see the finished film. I'll be waiting.
